Prior to making any attempt to play guitar songs, you need to make sure your guitar is tuned correctly. If your guitar is not tuned as it should be you will soon discover that the song you are trying to play will sound absolutely nothing like it should. On top of this, you need to know how to read guitar tabs before you can play guitar songs too.

Once you have tuned in your guitar and know how to read guitar tabs, you will need to train your ear when listening to a song in order to be able to play guitar songs. Listen to simple songs to begin with, preferably those songs consisting of three simple chords.

At the time of listening to the song, concentrate on the rhythm and timing of the chords and strums you hear being played. Then, after you have heard the song a few times you can try to go along with the song by reading the guitar tab at the time it is playing. Carry out this procedure a couple of times and make a mental note of the rhythm and timing.

After you have listened to the song a few times and followed along on the guitar tab, you should then pick up your own guitar. As the song is playing strum along with the song. Of course, you don’t want to play your guitar too loudly; you want to be able to still hear the song you are trying to mimic.

As you begin to pick up the timing and strumming style, you can start to play the song on your own without the assistance of the music. Don’t worry if you forget the song because you can easily listen to it again if you need to. The songs you practice on your guitar should be played over and over again, one at a time, until you are able to sing along with the song as you play. It will help you if you master one song before moving on to the next.

If you have a video recorder you may even want to film yourself playing. When you are finished playing, you can watch the video. This will help you to correct any errors you may be making in regard to proper technique.

Discovering how to play guitar songs is not as difficult as you may first think. All you need is passion and patience. If it takes a while and you make many errors, don’t worry about it too much as this will only lead to you making more mistakes. If you just can’t seem to get it right and become frustrated put down the guitar for a while and go off and do something else. But remember to pick up your guitar later on and get back to practicing how to play guitar songs until you get it just right.

      online guitar lessons

The main idea for writing this article is to give you some tips for making it easier when learning other peoples songs using guitar tabs. But first, a little background on what it is to be an emotional player….

As a teacher, I always have students asking me to teach them how to play songs by such artists as Jimi Hendrix, Stevie Ray Vaughan, Slash and many other really famous guitarists. Many of these awesome guitar slingers are what I call “Emotional Players”. When they write and play music, they do so without much thinking or understanding of what is actually going on with the song. They are playing from the heart and keep trying new things until they end up with a song, lick, chord progression or whatever there looking for. Sometimes this comes very naturally to a player and sometimes it does not. Something to make note of is that when an individual writes a tune, it is usually easier for them to play it than it is for you or someone else to perform it. Although this may seem obvious when you think about it, a lot of people don’t take that into consideration when learning a song.

Now the tricky part comes in when you, the fan, student or whatever, wants to learn this song. Most people will either learn a song by ear or by finding some form of sheet music or guitar tab. If you are going at it by ear, then you just keep trying things until it sounds like the tune. If you are going to learn a song by sheet music, then there is a whole different approach that you will need to take. There are a lot of little changes in songs that can make learning it difficult. Usually good quality tabs will confuse you because they are very specific. This is because most good tabs will transcribe the song exactly how it is played on the recording. Even a beginner easy guitar tab can have some tricky parts to it. What you need to remember is that emotional players rarely play the same thing twice, there are always little changes that happen between takes. This can leave the person learning the tune very confused because it’s hard to understand what it’s like to write emotionally and let the music come out of you without thinking about it. When you’re learning another person’s song, you will be approaching it with a whole different mindset than the person who wrote it.

If you look at the song “All Along The Watchtower” By Jimi Hendrix for example, look at what he plays during the 1st verse vs. the 2nd verse, you will see that they are totally different. The chord progressions are the same, however the lead parts that Jimi plays are different. Both parts sound awesome over the chords, it’s just two different ways to jam over the changes. The frustrating part for people taking beginner guitar lessons comes in when they try and learn every little detail of every part. Now if you are a perfectionist or in a cover band, then it’s important to play the song as close to the original as possible. However, if you are just wanting to learn the song for fun, then what I suggest doing is to first learn and play just the basic chord progression. Once you are comfortable with this, then try and tackle the more difficult and advanced parts.

Another situation to look out for is when you have a bar of music with a lot of single notes that are very close to one another. The trick here is to understand that all these single notes are usually part of one single and basic chord. Instead of strumming the chord, it’s played by breaking up the notes. Metallica’s “Fade To Black” is a great example of this. Look at the main verse riff to see what I mean. At first glance you see single notes all over the place. Many beginner guitar players try and play this type of passage with just one finger. Now step back and look at it like a group of chords. You will see that the chord progression goes Am, C, G, Em. If you put each of these chord shapes down before playing the part, you will see that you have almost all the notes right under your fingers, all you need to do is play the right strings and your golden.

These are just a couple examples of what to look out for when working with tabs. There are certainly many more tips and tricks you can use to make the process of learning songs quicker and easier but these are the two biggest situations that I see people having the most difficulty with. Keep practicing and learning new songs and the process of using guitar tabs will get easier and easier.

It is of course true that you can buy DJ software for use in the home nowadays. EJ is somethng that many schools like to use as a bit of end of term fun or even sometimes used in music class of course if you are a proffessional there are more sophisticated products out there.

The only real problem with this is that they tend to be pretty expensive so the question is, are the expensive price tags worth it? Well if of course wanting to be a DJ is something you have always wanted to do then it comes without saying that the technology is worth the money.

Native Instruments TRAKTOR SCRATCH PRO is a major brand to look at. What comes with this package is a comprehensive library of ready to scratch sounds so the limitations are really quite endless. Over 700 MB of sounds recorded in 24 bit / 96 kHz audio quality as well as including several sounds for solo scratching as well as sound FX, tunes for juggling, loops and more. £500 is around the price you are going to have to pay for this and although expensive it contains a lot.

Of course if you cannot afford this or are not that interested in being a DJ but always wanted to have a go at it then Activision are releasing a gaming equivalent of DJ equipment this fall. With the huge success of Guitar Hero Wolrd Tour they seem to have taken the art of being a DJ into their hands and by the looks of it so far it is shaping up very nicely indeed. The game is set to contain the best of the best songs from both past and present artists to make fans happier. Another benefit to this is that the current guitar controller is going to be compatible.

So if you are interested in being a DJ whether it is real serious Disco Jockeying you are into or even the gaming partner there is something out there for you, of course there is always the M-audio out there as well to help with those drum beats.

The are many types of guitars and they have different sounds and uses. The basic types of guitars are few compared to the many various shapes and sizes guitars.

          Classical Guitars

It is fitting to begin with the classical guitar as its history goes back thousands of years and from this type of guitar comes all other guitars. With the classical guitar, the music can be as delicate as it can be sophisticated due to the wider neck and ease of play

Until the invention of nylon, guitar strings were made from animal intestines. The nylon guitar string operates under much less tension than does a steel guitar string. The tone of a classical guitar is softer than a typical steel string guitar.

          Acoustic Guitars

Acoustic guitar simply means the guitar needs no external amplification. The striking of the strings combined with the vibrating of the guitar body, provides the sound.Wood has always been the material of choice for guitar makers or luthiers.Acoustic guitars are easy to play and make a good first choice of an instrument on which to learn music.

          Electric Guitars

The electric guitar uses electronics to make the sound of the strings heard. An electric guitar can be simply an acoustic guitar with an added sound hole pickup. Some of the famous makers of electric guitars are Fender and Gibson.

The invention and evolution of the electric guitar has changed the very face of music.

          Electric Bass Guitars

The electric bass guitar handles the notes below the standard guitar.

The electric bass guitar generally has four strings although it may have 5 or sometimes six.The Fender Jazz Precision Bass is the standard of this type of guitar.

          Acoustic Bass Guitars

Although familiar to the fans of Mariachi music, the acoustic bass guitar is not widely known or used.To hear the sound of the strings in an acoustic bass guitar you must have a large body on the guitar.

One of the most beautiful instruments is the guitar. There is no doubt that it is attractive to many. It doesn’t matter what type of music may be playing, usually the guitar is one of the critical instruments.

In many bands the lead singer is able to play guitar. If you are interested in learning to play guitar, you’re not the only one. There are many people who have already learned and many others that want to learn and who will learn how to play guitar in the future as well.

Learning to play guitar will require several things from you. You shouldn’t even think about wanting to play the guitar if you don’t think you can handle the following facts. You’ll just be wasting your money and your time.

Learning to play guitar is not something that is easy. There is nothing out there that you can do to suddenly be able to play the guitar like a real pro. It just doesn’t work that way.

Although the people you see on television make it all look pretty easy to do, this is not the case. You will never see all the hours that they have spent learning how to play and the hours they spent practicing the guitar as well.

Learning to play guitar will take time-This is related to the above statement. You can’t expect to pick up a guitar and have it mastered within a week. You have to put work into it. You have to practice. You have to learn how to tune your guitar, learn simple chords, you’ll then learn how to play simple songs and progress from there.

Another thing you’ll need when learning to play guitar is a lot of patience. No doubt you’ll make plenty of mistakes along the way. Some days you may be so frustrated you want to smash that guitar.

If you quit when things get tough and don’t go right, you don’t want to try to learn the guitar. What would happen if some of the best guitar players of all time just decided to quit when it became difficult to learn? More than likely they would not be rich and famous today.

Having realistic expectations when learning to play guitar will definitely help you out. If you are willing to work hard, take time to practice, have patience to deal with the problems, and stick with it, then learning to play guitar may be a good choice for you. Once you decide to learn, then you will need to figure out how to learn to play.

One option for learning to play guitar is to go online and use sites and internet guitar courses. Usually one site will be able to provide you the lessons and everything else needed so you can learn to play the guitar well.

Some of the best sites will make you pay a fee. Of course when you compare the small fee to the cost of actual lessons, it is definitely a good deal. Online lessons also let you learn when you have the time and you can do this all at your home too.

In the simplest terms, a guitar tab is a word that is used to describe a musical notation, which may contain either numbers or letters and explains to the musician where to place his/her fingers on the student guitar. Guitar tabs are made up of six lines that is often called a “staff notation”.Each separate string on a guitar is represented by a line on the guitar tab.

New musicians often find guitar tabs to be especially baffling in that the strings are written backwards. The highest string is found at the top of the guitar tabs, which is often difficult to learn since most people would expect that guitar tabs would be written from top to bottom instead of the other way around. In actuality, guitar tabs are written from the highest to lowest and the numbers on each line represent the guitar fret. In order to understand guitar tabs, all new guitarists need to learn string placement and how to correctly read frets.

Depending on the music publisher, guitar tabs, usually written in a standard format may vary a little. Not to mention, reading staff notation is much more difficult than learning to read guitar tabs. Because of it’s visual representation, new musicians are often more comfortable reading guitar tabs than any other kind of music.

When learning the acoustic electric guitar, musicians will become familiar with the instrument and how it works. This can be accomplished in a variety of ways, including private instruction, informational reference books and videos. In some cases, classroom lessons may even be used to help better equip the musician to learn electric guitar and how to read guitar tabs. Terms used to describe the guitar you need to be familiar with include the neck, fret, string, chord and so on., he/she will also begin to easily read guitar tabs.

When first beginning to play, guitar tabs will seem intimidating. Tabs may seem a bit confusing because of all the lines, symbols, numbers and letters. With practice and time, a guitar tab will be as easy to understand as the links found your favorite website. Few musicians can play by ear without first learning a song via sheet music, which is why reading guitar tabs is the first step that a guitarist must take before learning how to play.

If you need further information on finding a guitar instructor, check the local yellow page listing or stop by your local high school or college and ask the music director for a recommendation.

What is it that makes the Stratocaster such an individual guitar is the unique, intimate sound which comes from the three single coil pickup configuration. Although they can be a little noisy at times and need time to learn to handle at high volumes, they do have a raw sound  that is perfect for that rock n roll sound. They have a outstanding fit and finish, with amazing attention to detail. Plus others would agree I’m sure that the Stratocaster holds tuning very well. I found the action on my Stratocaster was setup great for me, which is a plus as well. You’ll sometimes find that the factory settings on some guitars higher than they need to be. I chose a maple board for my Strat as it just seems to glide nicely, and a satin neck which is nice and slick. They comein a variety of wood finishes, but it depends upon what is right for you. The American Standard Stratocaster comes with a new bridge, with improved bent-steel saddles for an increased resonance and sustain. The saddles maintain that classic look and tone, but with some modern improvements for example spacing, slot elongation and height screw length. The bridge has been made to complement the 22 medium jumbo frets and rolled edges which gives you more space for your fingers . They have also elongated the string slot to reduce friction and string breakage, whilst improving the string break angle over the primary contact point. Other than all this the fact the Fender Stratocaster is one of, if not the most sought after model of guitar tells you a lot.

I bought my Fender Stratocaster online from Music 123, which is a fantastic site not just because of their prices, but the fact they are so honest with their reviews. The products they sell are of the highest quality. My Fender Stratocaster was available with several finishes including the wood finishes and colors and on top of that a number of different tips, knobs and pickup covers.
