Learning to play the guitar is like pretty much anything else. If it’s worth doing it’s worth doing well. In other words, doing it well takes time, willpower and discipline. That is why setting aside time to practice instead of watching television or playing on a computer game is so important. Once you start telling yourself you’ve got time to watch American Idol instead of practice, you’re on a slippery slope.

When talking about learning to play the guitar I like to use the analogy that it is like learning another language. I say that because when you already speak a second language you are more likely to be able to speak a third and pick it up relatively quickly.

As an example, I speak Spanish. You may have noticed my name. Spanish is not my first language though, I had to learn it. Anyway, a few years ago a friend and I started learning Italian. My friend didn’t speak a word of any other language besides English. Well, you probably won’t be surprised to learn that I picked up Italian a lot easier than my friend. Same principle can apply to instruments. If you already play another instrument, chances are you might find learning the guitar easier than someone who wouldn’t know an A chord if it hit them on the nose.

My preferred method of learning visually, which is a great bonus for me because there are so many great online courses and videos out there teaching you how to play the guitar. Because of the plethora of video sharing sites on the web there are an almost infinite amount of free guitar learning videos available for those wanting to learn. However, a word of caution. These free video lessons are free for a reason. They tend to be short and miss out vital information. You have to jump all over the place from one to another and nothing is taught in the correct sequence. And you’ll probably end up having as many different teaches as free videos you watch.

Some of the lessons are great in themselves and I personally use them but only as a supplement, as a practice aid, to a proper, well structured course. Yes, free is good but please don’t use free material online exclusively to try to learn the guitar. I guarantee this will simply lead to frustration and the probability that you will give up due to lack of real progress.

Anyone who wants to learn to play the electric guitar like Funtwo is going to have some challenges. Countless hours of finger exercises and learning guitar scales is only the beginning. In order to master a song like Canon Rock, a musician has to spend countless hours practicing how to play power chords and scale patterns on the fret board.

Here’s the thing though, some people are just naturally gifted and Funtwo is one of those musical geniuses who has been entrusted with an amazing talent to shred the electric guitar. It caught me by surprise when he stated on an interview that he did not want to have a carrier in music. He is actually attending college to get a degree in computer science.

Why did the video of Fun-Two playing the song Canon in D sweep the world by storm? One can only call it destiny. I believe that things like this happen for a divine purpose. Think about it, some kid decides to not even show his face, is surrounded by an amazing bright light in his bedroom and busts out a Youtube number one hit on the electric guitar that gets millions of views.

There are no amounts of guitar lessons that will launch someone into that sort of fame on purpose in such a short time. It must be fate.

Not long after millions of viewers watched and hundreds of thousand of people commented on his Cannon in D guitar shred, he appeared with the great Joe Satriani on the Youtube’s first annual awards show. They opened their performance with Surfing With an Alien and finished with screaming electric guitars playing Cannon in D. Fun-Two obviously had the lead guitar part as Joe Satriani humbly played rhythm on his electric.

Funtwo has appeared on numerous TV broadcasts since his unexpected fame hit the music industry by surprise. His electric guitar arrangement of Canon Rock has been feature in several well know newspapers and radio stations.

In the small circle of my friends who play guitars, one of them is learning how to play Cannon Rock. Many young people on Youtube have posted their versions of the Funtwo arrangement, but none come close to the excellence that he demonstrates in his electric guitar masterpiece.

Getting lessons from where FunTwo learned to play the guitar would certainly speed up the process a lot. Any time you take formal guitar lessons it’s easier to learn a particular song from someone who has already mastered it.

My wife wasn’t happy either because I had just spent all this money on my guitar and amp and it was just sitting there.I ventured on to the Internet to find a more exciting way to learn to play the electric guitar and came across some online guitar lesson websites. It is actually a pretty amazing concept. A lot of the reputable websites that offer online instruction have professional guitar instructors that teach with video lessons and through the forums.Many of the reputable websites don’t just cater to the beginner, they also have lessons for more advanced techniques and styles. And you have unlimited access to the lessons from any computer with an Internet connection, so you are free to come back to a particular lesson as many times as you need to. There are also tons of different genres. So, whereas the DVD and the book showed me a couple of basic things, the online lessons allowed me to branch out and try other techniques and styles as well. One other cool thing on some of the better sites is the access to popular jam tracks and downloadable sheet music.You do have to do some research though because the quality of instructors was lacking on some of the sites. I found that the majority of the sites are membership sites that charge monthly fees anywhere from $ 15-$ 20 per month, however, some of them have a one-time upfront fee.However, the prices seemed extremely reasonable comapred to the cost of private instruction or even DVD’s and books.
