There has never been a better time to start making music at home or “Home Music Recording” as successful home producers call it.
The web means that anyone can be the next YouTube millionaire and access free Home Recording Techniques. This has leveled the playing field with bands who get signed and have big record companies behind them.
In this post I want to show you that building a Home Recording Studio is not a big deal and if you have a bit of a flare for songs then its a great time to get started.
If you’re a newbie to home recording then hold onto your hats because this is going to be just what you looking for.
Your Going to Need Some Computing Tools – When I first built the home studio I use today, my little trick was to ask a friend who had done the same thing exactly what he spent his money on. I then put my dollars into the same thing buying Mbox with Pro Tools and which I highly recommend.. (This software is what you use to build up you tracks and it’s amazing that they give it away for nothing!)
Don’t Spend $1000′s on Soundproofing – Find a suitable room for your home recording projects. If your going to record a full band you really need to book a day off work, the law says you can make as much noise as you like during the day. This will save you a lot of arguing…
You should take some steps to killing the sound leakage in your home studio. Some people get really into this and spend lots of money on their recording space, but I’m going to suggest that you only need minimal soundproofing. If you do record during office hours then you should be fine.
Get hold of some Quality Microphones – Picking the wrong microphone means your recording will fall flat. The best idea if your doing a full band recording is to hire a good set of mics just for the day, this will save you some cash and produce a much better sound.
Beat the Home Recording fear – Press record. So many people never get to this stage because of fear. Your first track will stink, but from that moment on you’ll be on the path to some great sounds.
Promote yourself- Facebook pages are by far the best way to promote you music these days. You really don’t need a website anymore, just a good page to throw all you tracks and videos on.
I hope you found this short guide useful and I’m sure with a little thought you can get recording for around $500!
